About me

A little bit about me the writer of this blog Abbie Marsh

I’m a 22 year old Mathematics student who’s just finished her undergraduate degree at the University of Bath in Mathematical Sciences. I specialised in Applied Mathematics and statistics doing an optional research project in the Mathematics of Climate Change and it’s impacts on agriculture. I’m hoping to start my Masters in Complex Systems in September with full funding. My research interests lie mainly with in Mathematical Biology and also the Mathematics of climate/planet earth.

As well as being interested in Mathematics, I am a lover of Musicals and dance specifically some of my favourite shows include Wicked the Musical and Sunset Boulevard. I hope once I do my Masters I will also be able to get back into to doing dance more I used to do regular lessons.

As well as being a Student, I do lots of Outreach and tutoring work. As a women in STEM who’s part of the first generation in her family to go to University who also has a disability, I find doing outreach work extremely important to helping other students from similar backgrounds learn that university is accessible for them. Tutoring I have done lots of work for charities that provide tuition to students from a widening participation background.

Last year I was diagnosed with a long term anxiety disorder and also ADHD. The past year I have spent learning to navigate how I can support myself with help for my diagnosis’s, what academic support I am eligible for and how I can manage academics with my disability.

I hope this blog will allow people to gain a better understanding on University, Mathematics, finding opportunities while studying and so much more.
